The Karpaz is the tract of land that makes up the area known as the “Panhandle”. This area really starts around the village of Yenierenkoy and extends to the north eastern tip of the island. This is a nature reserve and a protected area of outstanding natural beauty that provides a contrasting wonderland of tree covered hills, rugged countryside and the most fantastic unspoiled beaches imaginable. Many offer almost total solitude and one of these, Golden Sands, is ranked among the top ten in the world. Many of these glorious sandy beaches, some reached through rolling dunes, are the nesting grounds of endangered species of sea turtles that return year after year to lay their eggs.
Although this location offers an unbelievably peaceful way of life, you are certainly not isolated or cut off from civilization. Most day to day requirements can be obtained in Yenierenkoy or Dipkarpaz villages, or it is an easy drive to the major town and seaport of Famagusta for really serious shopping or for a day out in this historic city. On the way you will pass the new 5 star resort at Bafra and the quaint fishing village of Bogaz. Near to Bogaz a major development of shops and entertainment venues called the “Big Old Bazaar” is under construction. This is designed in a similar way to the old walled city of Famagusta and the traditional bazaars of Istanbul. An additional and very beneficial development is the construction of a superb yacht marina and hotel complex some 2km from the site.
